When cleaning the rod and piston assembly #7(only one out right now)I found the Ford logo on the inserts and 7 75 stamped also.I am guessing this engine had never been rebuilt and had the original pistons and bearings in it.It being a 75 model it has the low compression pistons in it as they have a fairly large recess in the tops of them? Can you go flattop pistons with the stock 75 model heads and not be too much compression? It has very little ring groove but I have no idea how many miles it had on it.I'll try to find the head casting numbers and see what they are. Thanks

Should be a low comp smogger. cleavland heads will not fit without extensive modifacations $$ Just get some flat top pistons, pick out good aftermarket cam to suit your intended useage.Bore it, grind crank, surface heads and good valve job, and there ya go . Unless your willing to spend $$ with aftermarket heads stock ones will be fine. However,,,If your looking to run rpms up into 4500-6500 range you'll want it to breath , heads and intake are MUST haves . I've been running 351's and 302 's in my stock cars for 15 yrs or so . Great motors with a little help .

You still have to port the crap out of the heads to make any differance ,but put a good edlebrock intake on the thing .the ports are not muck bigger than a postage stamp .buy a die grinder and start cutting ports open

Find a set of 351 c heads and put on it then will breath better ,a 351 W was a poor designed engine in the breathing dept .

Like Kip said...

Another item to look at is casting shrinkage. Take the old intake gasket and lay it back on the alignment pins of the heads. If you use it as a mask and spray a bright colored paint onto the intake ports you will see how much extra metal is blocking your engine's breathing.

You can use an air grinder to remove the painted metal from the intake ports and improve overall engine performance. It's the layman's style of "porting" an engine.

If itīs a 1975 engine and original, you will need different pistons and cam if you donīt want it to be a low powered dog like it was when new. I assume it has a 2 bbl intake, so it will help alot to replace that with aftermarket 4 bbl setup. Good engines that got caught up in the mid seventies low performance era.
