Now, those are creatively described noises...I just wish I could recall ever hearing anything like that...
Poor humor aside, and seriously: "...drive down...": d"you mean "coast" down, with foot off the gas, the engine acting as partial brake, OR actually driving down, gaining speed or going like a bat out of..you know..
If "coasting" down, is sound cyclic, following engine or wheel revs (regular, faster as tractor speeds up, OR more or less random?
If driving down, it"s immaterial, as you"re gonna kill yourself anyhow (more poor humor!!)
If when you pushed the clutch in, going downhill, the noise didn"t slow down considerably, it sounds like something else, not the engine (pushing the clutch in lets the engine drop to an idle, and engine noises should"ve slowed as engine revs slowed). With sympathy..

1..Drive down the same grade with the clutch pushed in and in nuetrual and see if the noise goes away.

2..Also If the axle pivot pin is severly worn it can allow the radiator to move in the fan area.

3..Engage PTO and see if it stops making the noise while going down hill.

4...Engine could be out of time or the valves out of adjustment or both. Leak in the intake and Exhaust manifold.

5..maybe there is a Rock in your engine :<}

Whats the oil pressure like?? Does it go up or down when going down hill?? If it goes down you may have a low oil level or the pick up tube might be bent or loose causeing you to loose oil pick up

Are you sure its not just the motor popping a little, maybe a timing issue, or in my case just a 68 year old motor its not running perfect but it runs, hate the cold 40 9n. mine does the same thing
if it working.
