Local TV station did a story a couple of weeks ago about unclaimed money that the state treasury is holding. I checked the web site and my name was on there for two accounts. I got the form notarized this morning and mailed it. It doesn't say how much I have coming, probably not enough to pay for the stamp, but what the heck,I'm gonna find out. Anybody else checked it out?

Allan In NE, sounds like you were going through then what my older brother is going through now. I am going to send him down for a tune up, along with several of those blonds with long legs, I do not need them here. I will check the Hauling Schedule and get back to you. I am a simple person trying to feed 600 calves. Every predawn morning when that old bi-directional tractor starts I am so happy I could pee my pants, of course that could be the hypertension meds kicking in. Sorry you didn't enjoy North Dakota, I think it is a great place.

Oh,

There's not a thing wrong with ND. Lots and lots of nice people up there and I learned a lot.

Mostly about myself and my shortcomings.

Actually, I should feel sorry for the state; they had to put up with me during those black years. :>)

My mother had a bank account that she knew she had but didn't get the interest updated so they sent it to the unclaimed property division. She got her money but it was a PIA!!!!!

Allan in NE, if you didn't like North Dakota why did you stay up here so long? It seems to me that North Dakota treated you better than Nebraska ever did.

Oh heck.

Always had a terrible weakness for long-legged blondes. Heck, they're all over the place up there. :>)

Naw, that was back when I was a bitter, nasty, obstinate sort. Couldn't have got along with anyone anywhere. Couldn’t even stand myself. It would have been the same any place.

What is the website to see if your name is on the list? Who knows I might have $20 somewhere that Jenny Granholm stole from my wallet.

michigan.gov/unclaimedproperty You can print the form if your name's on there, have to have it notarized and send a copy of your drivers license and social security card.

Thanks, I just checked I am not on the list. Neither is my wife or my son or my Parents. Oh well, I do usually get a small Mich. tax return each year. And I dont have lost bank accounts or inheritance money anywhere, that I know of.

My Sister-in-law saw my name on the unclained list 4 years ago. The electric co-op I used to belong to was maturing the patronage bonds and I have gotten a $88.00 check from them for 3 years. Comes just before Christmas... Gene

I routinely file those for my clients. Only had trouble one time and it was for a retired doctor who was entitled to a medicaid payment. Still haven't gotten it released. There is a lot of money in the unclaimed property division. Even employers who have paychecks that have not been picked up by employees are required to turn them in here in Michigan. Most just void them out but that is not the law. I keep my eye on it for my name but no luck yet!

Wisconsin used a list like that to find people with outstanding warrants

(Sigh)...Man, I wish some State would tell me they had $50 for me, leave alone a Century note...
Seriously, it doesn't hurt to check the unclaimed funds depository of every state you've lived in; all kinds of small deposits, security fees, etc., who's owners can't be located, gradually go to the state, which may or may not make efforts to locate the owners (after X years the funds escheat: go into the state's general fund).

rrlund,

checked the Michigan list. My name wasn't on it, but my sister's, brother's and 2 nephew's names were. Passed it along to them.

Thanks for the tip,

Jerry

ps,

I'll suggest a finder's fee to them and if they agree, I'll send you your half in the mail.third party image(But..... I wouldn't wait outside in the cold by the mailbox.)

I think that is legit.

I was informed a few years ago that the state of North Dakota had $100 that belonged to me from when I had lived up there and that I was to fill out that form and get the process of reclaimation going.

Figured $100 wasn't enough. ND didn't like me and I didn't like ND. :>)
