I own a 1947 Farmall H that has the standard 5 speed transmission and is also equipped with a "HIGH /LOW RANGE" shifter. I have never seen another like it before. One fellow I talked to said he had seen a Farmall M equipped that way. The high range is useless for pulling anything and 5th gear in high range would be suicidal. Has any one seen a Farmall H equipped this way? Thanks, Mike

M&W , Heisler and Behlen all made a version of the 9-speed . If your H won't pull a load in high range I suspect it has a problem . 1st thru 4th are the only gears changed when the unit is shifted to high . Like RustyFarmall said , 5th isn't changed since it's direct drive through the tranny . The H should go about 15 mile per hour or better in 5th anyway . I know my M ( with a M&W 9-speed ) does a touch better than 16 mph . The belly pump and pto are also changed to a higher speed so be careful when using them .

It is not a 10 speed. It is a 9 speed. The overdrive is non functional in 5th gear. Also, the high range is not to be used when the pto is engaged. Behlen and M&W both made them. They are not rare.
