I use the classic forum, and it tells me when I spell a word wrong, then I just holler over and ask my wife and I spell it right,

Hey jjon, I guess if everything needs to be perfect, I think there should be a comma after the word "class", and either a colon or semi-colon after the word "is"!!!

Spelling never gave me any trouble. In fact it gave me couple dictionaries. BUT hooked on phonics, I thought would be good for public speaking. Guess I am not old enough(64). I could not even start the program. My grandson breezed through it. Probably bad ears, huh! My excuse.

Yes I agree it looks "tacky", and just a little effort with one of the online dictionaries or even by "googling" the word can solve errors. I'm one of the worst spellers and occasionally miss one despite using a dictionary. This occurs because I believe my memory of the word spelling is accurate or it looks "OK". The theory when I was taught was to not sound out the word, but rather to just memorize the spelling. Worked great for the first 15 or so years. Not so great when you don't use the words for the next ten or more years.

We use face book at our house too.Awhile back a city friend of mine took some of her friends to see our farm as they have never seen livestock before. After returning home, she posted the pictures on her facebook album.Another friend of hers who wasn't along on the visit made a comment on one of the pictures. As one of her friends were yawning, she got her pic taken. Her absent friend commented"you can tell by the look on ..... 's face the smell of teh place". I was p!$$ed at first, assuming that she thought that a hick from the "sticks" probbly doesn't have electricity, let alone internet. Then I proceded to inform her of the natural ventilation process and the cu' per min of air exchange and also added,"By the way,you spelled THE incorectly".I snickered over that one half the morning.pd.

Spelling always came relatively easy to me. It seemed that others didn't have it so easy. A little further along in life I found that the things I struggled with, others found to be easy. It is a good thing that we are not all alike, as it would be an awful dull world.

Spelling, hummmm I even spell a word wrong myself at times. Perhaps it"s just a type error even.
But sometimes its cause of other sickness I have to deal with. So I never correct others.
Diesel or deisel, you know the difference. Merry Christmas to you anyway.

Well, if you think that's bad, my last name has 12 letters in it, had it all of my life, and still can't spell it. First letter's a K, and the last 11 are one big squiggly circle with a dot over it, cause I always dot the I at the end that we polish folks usually end with. Nope, can't spell my own name, and worse than that, when I run into someone from the old country, they say I don't pronounce it right either. Now, how messed up is that?

Here"s the key: Schiefelbein is a German name, so when you have two vowels together....the second one is the one you pronounce. She-fel-bine! BTW- any relation to the Schiefelbein Angus Farms of MN?

JMS, thier ancesters were Russian. And the way they pronounce thier last name is Scha-fel-bine

I don't know if they are related to the Schiefelbein Angus Farms of MN. Father-in-law and family moved to OR from CO in the mid 60's.

I went to school with a lot of kids whose parents had came from the Ukraine in Russia. Most of their names ended with y. Most were excellent soccer players. They settled along the Chesapeake & Delaware canal in MD. Its the waterway from the Delaware Bay to the Chesapeake Bay. Hal
PS: We use to swim in that canal too.
