I have a chance to pick up a JD 790 with a JD# 7 backhoe on it for a reasonable price. It's not a tough backhoe or anything like that but it would have it's uses for light duty stuff around the place. The JD 790 is just a small Yanmar painted green and is a real workhorse.

Anyone have any experience with or knowledge of the JD #7 backhoe?

Dan,

Bought a used #7 almost 20 years ago and have run it hard and put it up wet many times. It has dug everything I every wanted to . Mine is on JD 750 utility(predecessor to the 770 and 790) along with a #67 loader. The whole unit is small, compact and a good little digger but will never compare to a Case 580K. It is a good investment and will take some abuse. Repair parts have been reasonable even from Mother Deere.

Santa.

I have a JD #10 on the back of my Deere 1640. The 12" bucket will dig the toughest clay.
