is there a manufacture who has an adapter or bracket to convert the "5th wheel" style hitch on a travel trailer to a gooseneck ball hitch. Ive got ball in my truck bed and don't realy want to add a 5th wheel hitch too.

I had the idea that I could make a sleeve that would attatch to the trailers 5th wheel tab and drop down th 2' needed and have a gooseneck hitch at the bottom. im not sure if there is a product out there already ? or the DOT won't let any body do this ??

a friend of mine bought a 5th wheel camper and an adaptor so he could use his regular gooseneck ball he pulled the camper a couple 100 miles when he got back he went and bought a 5th wheel it rides way to ruff and pulls on the truck way to hard its worth it to put a fifth wheel in just get one of the quick attach ones so you can take it in and out

Be careful!

An adapter will put more torque on your pinbox than many of them will take. Two feet is a lot of torque with a 12k trailer hooked up.

What do you have for a hitch? B&W, who make the turnover ball hitch, have a direct-fit fifth-wheel adapter that takes that issue out of the formula.

Be sure that your 5th wheel trailer hitch is strong enough to handle that type of torque. I wanted to get one for my 99 Carriage Carri-Lite camper, but phoned the company and learned that this was NOT recommended for my unit.

Try your local camper dealer they used to run about $250 that is what we did with my parents camper instead of putting another hitch in the truck and we can pull it with any of the trucks

Thanks for the replies, this is exactly what I was looking for.

if some one else has designed it and is selling it it must be ok to use on most travel trailers with strong enough masts. This thing attatches straight down so it doesn't put the weight further back, nothing has changed except for the hitch!

I had 2 on 2 different campers, they worked ok but were a lot harder to hook and unhook than the 5th wheel hitch.I removed mine and installed a 5th wheel hitch and changed the coupler box on my 28' goose neck flat bed trailer to match it,love it now.
