Converter lockup not unlocking? Try tapping the brakes only enough to put the brakelite on.

If it happens when you're slowing down and not while under load or at RPM, I wouldn't think it would be a fuel delivery problem.

I'd suspect an emissions problem. Either have someone run an OBD II scan to see if it has any codes stored, or you can go to Walmart and buy your own OBD II scanner for about the same price as what a shop will charge to scan it.

It may need a a new fuel filter. You should measure the fuel pressure to what that is at high speed when it starts the sputtering. If the fuel pump is in the gas tank it may have dirt or rust blocking the pump inlet. Had that problem on a Chevy Citation. I dropped the tank and it was full of rust. I cleaned the tank and installed a new pump. My neighbor said I wouldn't change that pump and I said you're not pulling the tank
and doing all this work. Pump was around $50.00. Hal
