Of the weather this winter or something. I asked a simple question yesterday and get slammed because I did so. I was just wondering about the pasture/hay thing not looking to have people jump all over me because I asked.

Old. Just remember, if it weren't for the 2% nasty folks, we wouldn't truly appreciate the 98% good folks that make this forum so interesting. Thanks for being on the good side, we appreciate your contributions

I won't even check it out to see what was said. Many folks are just that way and the rest must tolerate it. Every body has a relative or knows someone that is tough enough to kick cats. Then again ya got to give the offensive ones the benifit of the doubt, less we wear their shoes. For the most part this croud is top of the line and I certianly hope it continues.

Hang in there Rich. Pay no attention. I see Animal Abuse all the time especially Horses and the only out they have ,poor creatures,is the concern such people as you have for them. Here in Az. Horses are in a sorry state right now if owned by down and out people. The Economy is going bad and Animal Feed is going out of site for cost, so Animals do not get fed and cared for as much if at all. Every day the Sheriff and Animal Control investigate Cases of Animal Abuse but it is usually to late for some of these poor creatures.

Old, I have to confess that my answer was well rehearsed- I've had to say it about a million times this winter when I catch my "lady boarders" tossing $7.00 square bales in to the field so that good ol' "fat n' sassy" can eat a bite and lay in the rest!Same ladies are always dieting themselves... Horsey mommas are a lot like Italian mothers- gotta be feeding all the time. Here's another question- why do crop farmers seem to hate horse farmers so much? Like daddy used to say, "in the end, their only livestock"!

Yea and some people are ill and grouchy cause they got money problems, and some got money problems cause they got horsey. It was good of you to be concerned about the livestock, just sit back and take it easy.

It's the short dreary days a lot of times. I know several people that get close to impossible to be around in winter, my wife being one of them sometimes. We changed the lightbulbs to energy saving bulbs that have the florescent tubes in them and I changed every light in the stalls, workshop, utility/tack & feed rooms etc to 3ft florescent tubes. You wouldn't believe the difference in attitudes. Animals even act better too.
I keep a spotlight handy for times that the wife gets extra crabby and beam her between the eyes for a few seconds
Saves on electricity too.

As far as the horses go, I'd rather you be concerned than take a chance on having them starve.

Forgot Old don't let those guys bother you if you want to worry about someones horses then I say go for it I see a lot of animals that need help these days and its alway nice to see that someone actually cares enough to take a good look at them. you might just drop buy the neighbor and talk to him about the horses if they are in good shape he will not mind a bit that you were worried about them if not then turn him him.

Well I might do that if the guy wasn't such a back side of an donkey in the first place. But I'll not do that because of him being that way. Hes also a guy that can't figure out why he has so many weeds in his field when he brush hogs it every year, but does it in Nov.

A lot of animals are going to be underfed this year because we ship millions of tons of Fescue hay out of here.

This might the problem.

The day is coming! "Sixty is the worst age to be," said the 60-year-old man. "You always feel like you have to pee and most of the time you stand there and nothing comes out." "Ah, that's nothing," said th e 70-year-old. "When you're seventy, you don't have a bowel movement any more. You take laxatives, eat bran, sit on the toilet all day and nothing comes out!" "Actually," said the 80-year-old, "Eighty is the worst age of all."
"Do you have trouble peeing, too?" asked the 60-year-old.
"No, I pee every morning at 6:00. I pee like a racehorse no problem at all." "So, do you have a problem with your bowel movement?"
"No, I have one every morning at 6:10." Exasperated, the 60-year-old said, "You pee every morning at 6:00 and crap every morning at 6:10. So what's so bad about being 80?" "I don't wake up until 7:00."

At our age,a trip to the bathroom is like going to a fireworks show. You stand there for a long time waiting for something to start. Then there's a lot of oohing and aahing and you're never quite sure when it's over.

Some people feel the need to share their opinion when it is not necessary or even helpful. I love this forum and the opportunities it provides. The jokes, friendly talk, advice, and discussions are very helpful in all aspects. Do not let others discourage your efforts.

Old....Considering the wealth of knowledge and information on antique tractors you've so patiently given out to people on this site, I'd say you have a right to ask anything you darn well want to, and whenever you want to.

Most of us here would agree too.

All I was doing was asking a simple question about hay and a guy I know that doesn't feed it or for that matter doesn't feed the animal a sup lament much if at all. Just don't see how they do well. I grain all my animals at least once a day and they always have hay and I never over graze. So I'm just trying to figure out how he gets by and I don't. But then I also make sure my 3 horses are fat and happy

I don't know. Maybe it goes back to what Paul Harvey was telling quite a few years ago. He said that standing fescue,in the winter, has as much feed value as fescue that's been cut and baled. Maybe he has fescue and that's the answer? Don't know.
