1937 A R john deere

Does any one know? I am restoring a 37 A R john deere, it has a starter bracket on top and a fly wheel for a starter, were the 37 availiable with electric start? if so, was there a fly wheel cover for it? what kind of starter? or was it a special starter? would apreciate an opion.

The industrial tractors had starters long before the ag tractors. Is it an AI and not an AR? The parts tho would be the same and there was always a cover made for any starter as that ring gear was way too dangerous without a cover.

Someone on the John Deere board might be able to offer a better idea. I don't remember if the unstyled tractors were available with an electric start or not.

If they did, the guard would probably look a lot like the early styled tractors. Basically they had a band that covered the ring gear but left the rest of the flywheel exposed.
