Didn't think that brake felt right. Yep, it was fugulated fer sure. :>(

Geeze! You'd think that it would last longer than just a mere 53 years. :>)

53 years! Now- pull the rear rotors off a brand new Expedition and you'll find the E-brake shoes will look exactly like it! Ford must send 'em out "pre-fugulated"- rather than "time fugulated"!

Is the one you had locked to keep the tractor on the trailer on the way to town?

Thanks to Billy NY, and others who provide sources
to this forum. As a "Fixer upper" of old things
I print a file of such sources, which will
puzzle my heirs when I finally expire.

Warranty null and void now, there is a clear violation of the terms here, by working on it in a pair of mocccasins while in the comfort of ones heated garage! :)

Couldn't that band be relined ? Only thing I always wondered when you can't find the part like that brake band, and must have it re-lined, they need to know the correct thickness and type of the material, have always wondered where they get the information on that for the older equipment. Have some crawler parts on the bench that need new friction material, no idea on thickness, hate to get them done and be wrong, looks like an easy job for someone who has a rivet press like a chicago rivet machine and even just a hand clinch tool for a small job, would seem easy if you could get the friction material pre-drilled and counter bored and had a hand clinch tool, hiring done though these friction outfits would be even easier.

Few places off the net

Is the warranty up.

If not I'd go complain to IH.

Maybe they will still prorate the parts cost.(:~})

I have to do mine too, the kicker is I just put new bands on. $%#$@# TSC parts!!! I'm gonna cut them and have them welded to shorten them. I hate having to remove the hitch mount to get to the brakes, probably one of the worst design elements of the M's.

Ah now, I seen the pics of your place, flat as a pancake! no need for brakes there, just drop the disc if you have to stop! Lol! Those look better than the ones I pulled out of my M last year. I had to get new drums and bands since ol M was going to Hill country to log and I didn"t want to go on "Mr toads wild ride". I did have to hammer down and dress with a file the part of the bands that went in to the pivot as the new ones were too tight. I will be going through Nebraska next Sun. Need anything hauled from Indiana?

That looks like the ones I took off my M the last time it got brakes 25 years ago. Dad kept putting me off when I said it needed brakes, he decided maybe it did after I went through the closed gate with the feeder wagon. Lee

Yep, they should have lasted a lot longer :>) Be careful who ya buy the replacement brake bands from.

Got some last year that were too long, returned them and got a set from the IH dealer.

Are you gonna put a three point hitch on that tractor? If so have ya got any idea of what brand yet?

Put a siginaw on a Super M three years ago, kinda pricy but very well made and works great.

That was gonna be my next question; where to buy? Have heard the horror stories of bands not fitting correctly. Thanks.

Yeah, I have a heavy standard hitch off of a 686 laying out here in the yard. Think I'll put it on first and then screw up my courage to spend the sheckels on that Saganaw.

Uff-Da! Hate to drop that much more in 'er, but the tractor just 'taint worth a darn without a good hitch, I guess.

Ouch. This on your new M? Kind of hard to turn without them. Kind of hard to stop real good too. Had a Deere like that, and sure made life tough, and a bit dangerous too. That M's gonna be quite a runner when you get it dialed in. I still can't get over that W/F. I just never saw one like that before, and my jaw's still hanging in awe, and I mean that in a good way. Good deal.

Have a nice night Allan, its bedtime here.

That's slick. You know? When I picked up my old 4520, there was a Deere B setting next to it, nice too. I didn't want or need it, but was nice. It too had a W/F, something I'd never seen on one before either. It was a sharp tractor, but... I didn't even bother asking, not even in conversation though. As far as I've ever known, them old green B's and red H's and M's and the sort always had N/F's...everyone I was ever on did. That's pretty slick Allan, just what the doctor ordered, except some will argue, so I'd better keep it quiet.
