I recently sold my 03 Ford P-Stroke 6 liter and bought a 07 Chevy 6.6 Duramax. Had a New Turbo, Intercooler, Oil Cooler, 2 Alternators, All New Injectors, All New Glow Plugs, New Fuel Lines + a lot of little parts replaced on the ford, I finally couldnt afford to keep fixing it, so I switched to Chevy. What can I expect out of the duramax? Any common troubles? I dont like the lower ride height of the chevy, and the smaller crew cab, my chevy is a dually the ford wasnt, feels like the dually is all over the road when they are wet or just a little snow on them. It rides nice but handles worth crap. Should I stay with chevy or go back to ford? I like the looks of fords better, but i need performance

You can find instances of problems with any brand of truck, and also owners that have never had a problem (as is the case with my past Fords). It does seem that the cost of repairs, if needed, are very high with the Isuzu. It calls for well over 20 labor hours to change the head gaskets, and a little over 20 hours to change a later model turbo, the first line in the repair instructions says "remove transmission". No joke.

I bought an '08 Ford diesel 4x4 dually this summer, and couldn't be happier. Milage unloaded is up aroung 18 now, and it's the quietest and smoothest truck I've ever driven. I really liked my 2000, but this one is head and shoulders above it.

Neighbor has a 2000 ish yearmodel with the auto tranny. Has 175,000+ (peeked at his odometer one day while I was standing at the window and yakin with him. It sounds good and seems to be going strong. This guy is not mechanically inclined and everywhere he goes it's at full throttle. Has had no problems that I I know of.

But Dodge has earned my trust, as has Cummins, and if I bought the diesel truck it would be the Dodge; just personal preference.

I drive a lot of miles between Wis and the NE US. Right down I-80 most of the way. I see a lot of guys pulling goosenecks loaded with trailers (Haulmark, etc). They're all using Fords or Dodges w/diesels. Not a Duramax to be seen and those guys are doing this for a living. As a matter of fact, I don't see many Duramaxes at all. Just my 2 cents, I really don't have any preferences.

the duramax with the allison transmission is a dream for pulling trailers! i got a '01 powerstroke and an '07 duramax. the duramx definatly pulls trailers better then the powderstroke! yeah the fuel economy isn't the best i could be but i think it is worth it

Nice setup except the Dayton Duramax/Izuzu plant anounced they are closing down soon idling a couple thousand workers it all has to do with the strength of the american dollar against the Japanese Yen.SO I'm guessing the Duramax will be made in Japan and backordered parts will go from one week to 4 or 6. It really is a nice engine my son tested it for several months on the TRC test track with virtually no problems. The rest of the vehicle is your choice.

I have a late 07 3500.I got it in middle of August & has 13300 mi.It is the 1st Chev. I have owned, I had all Ford before. My 01 f350 crewcab 4x4 srw was 100hp over stock & pulled good, but in all honesty the Chev pulls better. My only complaint is the fuel mileage.
