My boy just sent me a copy of a press release where Fiat is looking to build the Alfa Romera cars here. Since it is Fiat they are looking for a plant that some other automotive company has closed or since they own Case IH & New holland one of those. Ah yes, farm machinery one week cars next week. Nothing new They built some Western Star trucks in the old Cockshutt plant 30+ years ago. J.

That is the up side to a weak dollar. While our buying power is lower, it entices companies in other countries to bring work here. This is why the manufacturing part of the economy is doing well, even though every other indicator still says we are in a recession.

Maybe they'll build next to the new MG plant in Oklahoma.

Not completely related to your subject, but made me think of something when someone made the guest worker joke.
I am an American living in Germany. They show these programs (documentaries?) on TV about German families moving to the States or Canada etc. One family has been followed for about 4 years that went to Gainesville, Texas. Got there, got a job right away, yada yada, and now have bought property on a lake and built a small tourist business. That's what it shows on TV here, I'd be curious to hear the real deal. The in now seems to be Canada. There was something about a trucking company one evening that a family got picked up on right away. Friends of ours (Germans) think the grass may be greener somewhere else, so found the company on the internet. Got an offer the following day and are all excited and ready to sell out and move.
I keep asking myself why the locals don't (or won't) work for these companies. Is it that it's a bad place or is the area hard up for reliable workers?

Just curious.....

Dave

He's got to come up with more than that to beat our present president. Just under 160 billion to hit the mail boxes in May and just printed out another 200 billion for the Bear Sterns thing. Keep the press running and buy more presses. LOL Ain't no problem to print more money. I gotta figure out a way to get me one of those money pressing machines. LOL

Oh no. We'll have to get guest workers here to do the jobs Americans won't do then. (just kidding sort of)

Pretty close to me (45 miles) a new apartment building was about to be built. Folks close to it found out it was only for guest workers. Our tax money at work again. Don't know where it stands now but construction was halted by local gov. for now.
