Some pretty hard to find IH's:

SUPER NICE IH truck! Brought $4,500. All it needed was air in the tires and a good waxing! It even had a new JD grill of some sort in the cab.

This is the "short row" of JDs. Seems like there was 4 or 5 rows altogether of them.

Some being taken over to the "international" loading area.

This group is waiting to be loaded into containers for overseas shipment. This group is almost totally different than those in this same area the day before - since quite a few containers were already loaded and left.

Hi Howard,
Great pics and I really enjoy them but could you please resize the pics to 640x480 for us dial-up users. I got three DL before the DL timed out plus we won't have to scroll the page to read/see the thread.

Hey T-bone,

Sorry for the trouble - I knew it would be pretty "heavy" on a dial-up connection.

I've just been letting photobucket resize them to it's maximum. That's actually shrinking the original pic to 1/6 or 1/8 the original size...

It might help if you wanted to go straight to the album - it shows you thumbnails and then you could pick which ones interest you.

I think this link will work for you (it's hard for me to know for sure, since I have a cookie with them that keeps me logged in all the time):

Thanks for the great pictures Howard. I think you might have missed your calling. Just outstanding. I had intended to go to Bridgeport but my schedule wouldn't allow. Ended up watching a good portion of the auction on the internet. Enjoyed it immensely. Actually think I'm having withdrawal symptoms. LOL Thanks again, great job.

read sodly's reply...then ....do what he say ...do what he say...

And thank you very much.

Any idea how this guy got all this neat stuff? Did he marry lots of money? Was he a fair dealer? How was he financed is probably is the biggest question. There is alot of money just sitting there regardless of what he paid for each item. It just seems so high over the fence to colect that much in one life time.

And thanks again for posting the pictures.

All the locals seemed to really hold him in high regard.

As near as I know, he was just a real wheeler dealer, who really had an eye for "collectible" things and got into it before prices got high.

The story I got was he was farming, started working on tractors on the side, started picking up parts tractors for that sideline, then started selling parts as a salvage yard, and then started collecting the nicer ones into his own collection.

An inspiration to us all! ha!

How far are you from Manchester or Postville?

My youngest brother is moving back up there to NE IA. His in-laws live near Postville and he's moving to Manchester.

ok I got a question what is the story with these people with all "rare" tractors. how do they get ahold of all these rare tractors and do they really use them or do they just sit in a line in a field.

Most went pretty cheap, I thought. $400-1000 would have caught most. There was a very nice IH pickup similar to the red one in the pic that was just almost as nice - I ran it to $900 and wish I had kept going a little more.

It didn't have a speck of rust that I could find.

So, that's what they call "junk" in that part of the country? LOL!

I know the whole auction was a shady deal, but doesn't look like a bunch of run-out junk to me...

All the previous to auction talk here must of been fabricated by those not wanting others to show up at that sale ? That stuff sure doesn't look like what I expected from the earlier comments. It sure as heck doesn't look like junk yard stuff to me ? Way to complete looking. Hardly picked over ?

All I have to say is go back and look who was running their mouths and remember that when they voice their uninformed OPINION again. And I believe that some of those people are the ones that wanted a very knowledgeable person to quit posting on the John Deere board too..... .

Yep, I was having a smoked/chopped bar-b-que brisket and piece of coconut cream pie from a couple of the concession stands with a couple from Bridgeport.

They had gone to school with Mrs. Phillips and knew Gary very well. According to him, you about had to know Gary personally to get him to take a part of a complete tractor.

In other words, he wouldn't start parting a complete tractor if he didn't have a real good reason.

I'd sort of believe that - since the ones that were parted - had been parted hard. The ones that hadn't - tended to be very complete.
