Special engine oils

In an attempt to answer once and for all, the questions regarding 'what motor oil do I use' here is the answer.

Never use anything in your brand tractor except oil marked specifically for it, ie.:

SPECIAL Farmall Super C Motor Oil, for use only in Farmall Super C engines.

or

John Deere Motor Oil, for use ONLY in John Deere engines, made in the John Deere oil refinery using secret ingredients just for JOHN DEERE engines.

or:

Ford Brand Motor Oil specially blended with special additives for FORD tractor engines.

The list goes on and on, just substitute your brand machine and only buy motor oil sold by that maker. Using anything else will cause Oil Gremlins to crawl out of hiding and destroy your engine.

Always keep 3 or more different weights on hand, as well. One for starting the motor on sunny days, one for windy days, another for cold days and one for warm days.

If people are going to LOOK at your tractor, you must use special Appearance Motor Oil sold by your tractor's maker. It has additives to make your paint brighter and your chrome shine better.

Then of course, there is Plowing Oil for use while plowing ONLY! You must drain this out if you wish to cut and bale hay and replace it with Hay Cutting and Baling Oil.

Special Winter Oil has elves in it, that shine your engines innards over the off season and fight off attack by engine gremlins while your tractor is sitting.

If you just want to putter around, by all means, make sure you use Slow Oil and in turn, if you are a pulling enthusiast, use ONLY Go Fast Motor Oil, again made by your tractor's manufacturer.

More than anything else, make sure you change your motor oil at least once a week, or every other time you start the engine. You just can't be too careful.

Most of all, DEMAND and USE, only SPECIAL motor oils designed specifically for YOUR make and model tractor. Ford Oil for Ford's, Farmall Oil for Farmall's and John Deere Oil in JD's. Never ever use another makers brand oil! Who with any conscience would pour oil from a Red can into Green tractor? Never ever use common sense, refer strictly to the owner's manual and follow the instructions to the letter.

Shell Oil never built a tractor, using something like Rotella might make the engine disintegrate. Delo rhymes with Jello...would you pour that in a TRACTOR engine?!!!!! Havoline rhymes with Vaseline.....god forbid pouring something like that in your engine!

Oh yeah....I also wanted to add, you need to use Plow Grease to make your plow pull easier and to keep it all shiny while it sits.

I hope this helps.

The JD oil refinery is just across the road from the JD magic paint factory.

Anybody that uses a paint that instantly adds $8,000 value to their machines above and beyond the competition, has to make a super oil. Just ask them, they'll tell you all about it down at the dealership.

Remember, if you own a John Deere tractor, to always, always, always, only use ONLY John Deere motor oil. They have it on the shelf at the dealership specifically marked for your model.

An example is:

John Deere 'B' Motor Oil (all years inclusive), for use in B models only.

Or:

John Deere 70 Special Motor Oil, for use only in model 70 tractors. DO NOT USE in models 40, 50, or 60! The increase in horsepower by using this special oil will damage those engines! Can be used for detuning JD 80 tractors.

Now you know why dealerships have a warehouse just for motor oil. Not only because every model requires a specific type, but because it has to be changed so often. Just ask any internet oil expert, they'll confirm this.

Don't want to bring up a touchy subject, but... If one ran across an ETD, what kind of oil would you use for it? I hear the are kind of rare, I would think nobody makes a special ETD oil.

Are you sure you don"t mean EDT?

Erectile dysfunction, tractor? This is one case where your mechanic has to prescribe an after market special lubricant...Viagraoil. This malady is not brand specific, but appears mostly in tractors 50+ years old and affects their lift mechanism, has little to do with the engine.

Until this stuff hit the market about 10 years ago, lots of old tractors just couldn"t raise their plow, boom pole, or hay spear. That has all changed now. I haven"t tried it, but as soon as my machine shows signs of needing it, I"ll buy a large bottle.

Mark, what do you suggest I used in an tractor that I stumbled on sitting in a run down area of Millwaulke. Isn't there such a thing as universal oil that I can put in it. You see the big thing is I can not find a manual for it. I paid the guy a hundred dollars for it. He said it was running when a couple of guys wearing white lab coats unloaded it several years ago. Said he remembered sonething about a triangle emblem on the side of the truck. This tractor is not stuck. This tractor is really unusual but since I can not find a manual for it, I guess I will have to sneak it into the recycler if not cut it up at home and haul it off. You see the tractor rights activist are hanging around and making things tuff for us guys around here to get our fence rows cleaned up and planted into corn. O well sorry I wandered off of your subject but if I work up enough neve to try to get it going do you suppose that I can find a universal oil to put in it or is it a lost cause? Thanks for any info that you guys an help me out with.

Sid,

That tractor uses special Invisible Tractor Oil, made just for tractors from that area. It has secret ingredients in it.....so it glows in the dark...a sort of eerie green color. They claim (those guys in the lab coats) that it was originally created by some folks down around Los Alamos, New Mexico. The reason you can"t find a manual is because they destroyed all of the originals. Does your tractor still have the original fenders on it...the kind that look like tin foil, that crumple up and pop right back out in shape? Orson Wells mentioned those tractors in one of his books, they only made 2 and one is at Langley AFB. Maybe you can contact the folks at Langley and they can send you some Invisible Tractor Oil.

I got kind of a kick out of this. Some won't understand it tho.
Seems like about every three days some body is worried that if they don't put the exact oil in whatever, that it will blow up. Im sure it is aimed at them.

Who the HEIL said that greasing your plow bottoms makes it pull easier? Its just to keep the bottoms from rusting if you're leaving it outside.

Your post is kind of smart-a$$.

Rob,

Kinda smart a$$ed? It's all smart a$$ed, and aimed at idiots. All I can say is, if the shoes fits, wear it.

Yeah....fuel prices are a conspiracy orchestrated a secret society hidden in a mountain hideout somewhere in Slovenia, and led by former Romanian secret agents, the Ku Klux Klan and the ex president of the Kaiser-Frasier Motor company. Armed with ray guns and riding bulletproof Mo-Peds and dressed as Mexicans, they plan on taking over Bulgaria just as soon as the Bulgarian Army runs out of gas.

As I understand it, from listening to NPR, Greek agents were detected smuggling in 7 cases of special Mo-Ped Oil across the Slovenian border as the strike force readies themselves for their upcoming invasion.

old....nice to see somebody picked up the humor before the ball was dropped...hehe!
