Hi again, thanks for the positive replies. I know this is a tractor site, but as James said - an off topic that we can all enjoy.
OK first photo was our camp site
Second is the creek. The water is clear, the sand gives the colour
The last three are of the ruins of the shale oil industrial site. Great how the bush has come back in around 80 yrs.
Enjoy,
Rex

Hi, Yes I am not far from Toowoomba on the edge of the Darling Downs.
These photos were taken while on holiday near Lithgow in New South Wales. The family loves it down there, the history and sheer beauty of the place. Have to pick the right time to go though. The oil etc was freighted out by rail, special "Shay" locos which drove every wheel via driveshafts and bevel gears. Very powerful, but only for low speed.
No, I have not been to Glen Davis. Only travelled in Australia and New Zealand.
Cheers,
Rex

You mention the Shay loco's. Did they make some down there or were they imported? Where I live here in the states they built a lot of them at Baldwin, Lima, Hamilton here at Lima, Ohio and I know a lot were exported

Leroy, sorry about the delay - time difference!
I believe the Shays were imported. None left unfortunately, pulled apart for scrap!!!!! I hate that

Hi Rex. What roads/train tracks did they use to get the oil out of there with?

Where do you live exactly-Darling Downs area somewhere I am assuming.

Regards

Mitch

Great pics Rex, now you need to give us a location of where you took these. One day I will make it over there and get to enjoy the outback in person...

Those photos sort of remind me of Pennsylvania's woods and forests. We have old brick kilns, old canals and other great vintage things hidden away in our woods! Even the Pennsylvania Lumbermens Museum, in northern Pennsylvania, and i think they have one of those Shay geared engines there on display.
