How do I time a Continental 4 cylinder flat head in a Massey Harris 30 tractor? This may not be the original engine.

No. 1 cylinder (the one nearest radiator) up on compression stroke when you feel air pushing out spark plug hole on your thumb. The put the dist rotor on #1 mark on dist cap and mag coupling lugs should be horizontal matching the drive on engine that slots should also be horizontal.

Hint... Maybe put the spark plug wires off the mag in your ears? Or is that what happened to you when young? :)

about any engine will start timed at the compression stroke for number one cylinder on top dead center. The advance is normally built in to the magneto or distributor when at run speed.
