Well any more when a person tells me there a Christian I have learned I better go the other way because they will lie, steal and or stab me in the back. What is it now days that a person who claims to be Christian is more likely to #$%^^ you over and not look back. What happen to do on to others as you would have them do on to you. Or a mans word is his bond. Sorry just getting tired of people who claim to be Christians stabbing me in the back.

Old, I couldnt agree more. I am not saying that there are not good christians out there...BUT, most generally, the ones whom go out of their way to tell you and let you know about it are usually real B@stards!! The people who do good, are good people and lead straight and narrow lives usually dont tell you at every turn. I dont claim to be a christian, but if someone worthy needs help, i am there. I cuss, drink a little and have fun, but I know there is a man upstairs, and we talk when needed. Like grandpa says of my uncles, his sons, "if that is what a christian is, i dont want to be one." Sad but true.....

I think that people use it as a scape goat for what they really are deep down inside, and I honestly believe that there are a great deal of them that are only truly "Christians" on Sunday at church....Its hard to find people who are respectable and honest anymore....and there are a great deal of young people around who fit into this mold. Todays society is a me society, what can I get from whom and how and how big can I pump my chest, and my buddy next to me really isn't all that important...

The best of us is only a sinner saved by grace. For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Some shorter than others. Some get so close to God they forget which one is which. That's where the trou ble begins.

Well in a way I have to agree with you.It doesnt have to be the ones that say"Im a christian".A lot of times its anybody that you try and do business with. They will shake your hand and stab you in the back with the other and break the blade off in there at the same time.It does tend to be the ones that seem to think they are better than everybody else. Those tend to be the ones that generally run up to you and say"Im a Christian"and you know under their breath they are saying"and you are scum and I am going to take advantage of you any way I can".A person has to forgive and forget sometimes, and the world is probly a better place because there are folks that go to church and dont stab you in the back, and live the life of a Christian and dont make a spectacle about it.I have to say there are few people I trust, and especially anybody that wears a suit.If you are ever doing any job,and people wearing suits come and look at what you are doing, you may as well forget about common sense. It goes right out the window.Like the brass in the service.Since the "Christians"usually wear suits,I already am looking for an exit or a place to run, cause I dont want to get struck by lightning. Some of you all that like to talk about spelling,I will take an answer from Old any day over your smart a$$ed one.I bet its that way if you meet him too, though I never have.Either you lawyer/college boy/suit wearing types are jealous,or just disgusting. Also I am from the same side of the Mason/Dixon line as he is,in the same state. Some of you chosen ones on here give me lots of static, and I can spell real good. You see,you all are all about yourself, and could care less about others. There are lots of smart people out here in the world, and lots of us dont get on the internet.Just like everything else,a few hogs have to get in it and ruin it for everybody else.If it were you,and you were stumped, when somebody like Old speaks, you shut up and listen.Of course,no,not you.You just run your mouth, and make people mad,and what they learn from you is they dont like you.If they dont like you, they wont listen to your answer. They didnt teach you manners, did they?Respect your elders.Find a way to communicate that doesnt make you look like a hog.

Even Jesus had disdain for those who wore their religion like a medal. He was pretty sharp with the Pharisees, right? And he sure didn't like mixing business with religion- He toppled the money changers, huh?
If you beleive in using the New Testament as a model, I think He gives you some pretty solid instruction on how to deal with these folks.

Old, I lived south of the Mason-Dixon line for about ten years, so I got an education in bible-thumpers. If the first words out of somebody's mouth are "I'm a Christian", you better hold on to your wallet.

The true Christians don't wear it on their sleeves. I worked with a fellow for many years before I learned he is deeply religious and his father is a minister. Deeds, not words, as they say.

I'm sorry to hear that you feel that way. People can say anything they want to get you to trust them. That doesn't mean its true. Some people claim to be Christians and they even go to church on Sunday, but that doesn't mean that they are walking with the Lord. A man who is living his life according to God's word, won't lie, cheat, or stab you in the back. You can tell a lot more about a person by the way they live their life than the words that come out of their mouth.

You sound like you have a third grade education. Break out a dictionary and look up the definitions of "their" and "there" so it would appear that you made it to the fourth grade. only people of marginal intellect would make categorical statements. That was a categorical statement. So even you might understand: "All Christians are dishonest." "All people using the witty moniker 'Old' are really bright."

Abe was an interesting person, good reading about him, and those times, my grandfather worked on the centennial in the early 60's as a commercial artist, for the NYS civil war commission, the state education dept or some similar agency here has quite bit of documents, photos from then etc. I have a black and white of Lincoln during the civil war, taken from a negative, would have to dig it up, might the one of the 2 from his visit to Antietam, I forget which one, but it's a nice clear shot, my grandfather must have pulled a lot of information from the archives for this state project, found a file he kept at home that ended up here after he passed 30 years ago and that photo was in it. The state has at least one very significant document from then in their possession, some idiot, the curator, state historian actually stole a bunch of items was actually selling them on ebay, got caught, a atty who was knowledgeable on these items flagged them to the authorities, most if not all items were returned, should have seen him running from the cameras on the news, he had a great state job, six figure + all the benefits, not anymore.... pure idiot, how do you screw up like that in times like this, a job like that is just about as good as it gets for the state.

Ole Abe did attend some formal schooling, and was granted a law license at some point after, but I think the criteria to become a lawyer is a lot different today than what he had to do. He was definitely out of the country, a farmer, then ran a store with a partner, went belly up, 2nd time around it did ok, then he started getting into legal representation, followed by politics, at least something like this, very interesting history, like some of his quotes, though I can't remember a one right now !

Or did your parents build a library at Loyola?
My score was 3 1/2 times your stated score, and I didn't even get in to the lil law school I applied for in Charlottesville... you may have heard of it.

have read and rebutted... in reply to Aguanga, 05-10-2008 15:47:04
Nope- I've been totally honest about my scores. I took the LSAT on a whim in 2001, 20 years after a graduated from college, and with no preparation. I scored a 147 and did not get accepted into UVa school of law which was the only one i applied to, again on a whim, because it was close to the farm. I will not deny that I would have liked to have tried it.

You MIGHT be a fine gentleman who apparently is about the same age as I am- but you condemned "old" as uneducated due to grammar errors that you have made profusely throughout your own posts ('there', 'Chrisbian', 'arcetype'). This makes you either a blowhard or a hypocrit. YURHON'R, I REST MY CASE. GOOD DAY TO YOU, SIR!

Ag,

Anyone who actually graduated from Loyola should be able to spell the name of the fine city in which it is located.

You're one to bloody talk.
The correct word is they're, as in 'they are'. I don't generally set out to correct anyone's grammar given that my own is not so hot, but you could at least be correct since you set out to correct someone else.

Rod

A guy with a 620 verbal SAT score would not have made that error....and a lawyer would not have made it in a rebuttal.
A southern gentleman would not have started in on others...but your alledged degree identifies you as a west coast pr!ck anyway

and for the record, that's a "steroetype" not a "generalization"....although you could be the "archetype" for the west coast know-it-all

No I am not the "original" "west-coast know-it-all" and I admitted I was wrong but you on the other hand misued the word "arcetype" and came up short on all accounts. And I never insulted you or used vulgar language like southern gentlemen are want to do. You may sell tires and you may have gone to law school but you asked and I answered and you can't handle the truth.

Merriam-Webster dictionary defines archetype as the "original" the first one from whcih all subsequent are copied from the "original mold" based on the latin for the same. I do not call names and again you are wrong. At least I admit when I am wrong. I may be a fool but I am not the original. You cannot handle the truth. You sound like a bitter tiny man who wears his ego on his sleeve. Tiny, tiny tiny...

hold yourself to the same standards! in reply to Aguanga, 05-10-2008 15:56:00
check your post- you messed up the spelling when you condemned me for the use of "archetype"...and that's the BS that got you into this mess to begin with!

You need to hold yourself to the same standards that you attempted to hold "old" to. Enough- good day to you, sir.

And guess what?

Old,-- I believe sometimes God tests every one, It does say in His word, to beware of the anti Christ. I will always believe this to be true, as some people today, only want to be Christians when they know they are missing something in their lives and and don't know what it is. They truly haven't felt the love of God. They probably want it badly, and don't know how to receive it.

Old, I see your point.. I have seen wayyy too many business cards with an image of the Jesus fish, only to be cheated by that person..

On a positive note, true Christians do not need to advertise..

Real Christians conduct themselves and their business, in a way that they do not need to tell anyone..

Kinda like the time when I was a teenager and was looking to buy a car from a lot where the sign said "HONEST JOHN'S"...Pappy told me that if he has to TELL you he's honest, he probably ain't.

When Dad and Grand-Dad ran their garage, Dad always said that if a man came in there a'thumpin' on the Bible, you'd better hold onto your wallet. Not all, but a good many of those folks used their Bibles to hide behind while they lied, cheated, and stole as much as they could from folks.

On the other hand, a select few of their Christian customers would've given you the shirt off their backs if you'd needed it. No, it didn't come close to evenin' out, but Brother Carl Marshall and Brother Bob Stark, a couple of lay ministers, were as honest as the day is long, and if they told you something, you could take it to the bank. The garage has been closed for over 15 years now, and both of these gentlemen have passed on, but the way they lived their lives really left me impressed with them.

And a couple of "alleged" ministers who came in were always trying to get something for nothing, and would do whatever it took. Thank goodness we didn't do much work for any of them, and most of that kind were "welcomed" not to ever come back.

Mr Old, I'm sorry to read your opinion of Christians . I am a Christian , struggeling in this old cruel world . No man is perfect . There was only one man that was perfect & He was severely tarnished & died a merciless death on the Cross for all of us sinners . Yes I am also a sinner but saved only by the Grace of God . I do feeel some of your anquish though . Until the year 2000 I was a happily married , self employed man with a very sweet Christian wife . But Satan tempted her at her work location & she gave in to an adultress life style . Her leaving me after 33 yrs of marriage about ripped my heart out . I then turned my eyes from God & toward my problems . I became very bitter & hateful . This also caused me many problems in my business & health issues really took control of me . I was more or less forced into disability . And I also had worked for people that said they were Christians but proved different when pay day came . But you know something ? God never took His hands off of me . And yes I am becoming a much better person & yes I do have something to live for . This world is very cruel & a lot of people in it are very cruel . So please Mr Old , don't label Christians as perfect & without fault . One will never know what a person is going through at a certain moment of their life unless they have walked in their shoes . I do hope something I've shared has helped you in some way & not angered you more . May God bless you . Ken

Is this from you Mr. Old ? I agrre on the fact people should know we are Christians by what we do & say . It's called Fruits . But again , we are Humans & humans do fail occassionally . Isn't it great that God forgives us each time we ask Him . One thing for sure , God knows our hearts . God bless, Ken
