Is anybody out there using waste oil in a waste oil heater? Or is anyone using waste oil in diesel fuel? I dont think I would use waste oil in my new JD2305 tractor but..... If the oil was filtered and I know that there is zero condensation in it a 90/10 mix may not be a bad way to go. Would the oxidation in the used oil hurt the diesel injection pump? Clog filters and injectors? Does the diesel fuel and oil have to be mixed up real good? If anyone has input on this subject and I am sure that some of you will then rifle off your comments. I generate about 5 gallons of waste oil a year (not much) but I know of guys that generate many gallons a year and store it in their garages until they take it to the waste oil change places, who burn the oil in a heater.

I know of one truck line that use to run a system that automatically pumped oil from the engine into the fuel tank and then pumped new oil from a reservoir into the engine. The trouble with the system was the fuel tested as high sulphur fuel, and one guy I know was looking at a 5000.00 dollar fine for running farm fuel when all he did was buy a used road tractor. One odd thing was the drain plugs were welded in, just change the oil filter. Truck line was CRST

I guess I was the one that got that started, I just popped back on to give a thanks to Bendee for a link to www.listerengine.com I've been on there since I got home from church reading all about it. They have a forum devoted to WMO (Waste Motor Oil) as a fuel source, very interesting reading.

There was a thread on Tractor Talk on 5-22-08 (3 days ago) that was quite lengthy on using waste oil and how to do it. Look it up for some good info Nuff said Henry

Quit changing your oil and you won"t have to worry about the drain oil.

There have been a few threads on here of late on the subject of using waste oil mixed in with diesel fuel. Many resposes indicated quite a few do it and that no one could think of any harm that had been done that could be attributed to useing the waste oil. I tried it with my JD 4230 a couple years ago and it still seems to run just like it did before the experiment. I think darn good filtering is a must and if I do it again I think I will attach some strong cow magnets to the fuel filter to try and pull out any iron that is small enough to get through the filters.

What was you mix ratio? How long did you do it for? Do the diesel/oil mix separate if left in the tank too long?

I think I put about 5 gal. in 450 gal tank and used it all summer and through the winter. I filtered it going into the tank and there is a filter on the fill pipe plus one ont the tractor of course. I don't think it seperated. I added fuel conditioner before winter. I used most of the mix in my house fuel oil tank and saw no ill effect there either.
