I think it's a shame that discussions like this take up space in a tractor discussion forum. Political discussions never seem to change anything - especially each other's opinions.

Sorry I read the thread,

Any betters in the bunch? in reply to 1936, 08-05-2008 20:43:24
My guess is we will be fast to drill in locations we havent done before. We will be on the that band wagon so much that we will beg our government to help the drillers out so we can get some real cheap oil. There goes our tax dollars, and who do you think will own the oil rights---Probably not the members of this forumn!---who will profit again! The big oil companies---the same ones that cut back on production numerous times . And we tax payers will thank them.

In my neck of the woods we can't help noticing less traffic. So therefore less road use, then that leads to less matinance, less wages for DOT workers, And their managment team. Heck this is win win for all of us.

I kinda think we have been having it alot better than whats in store in the future. We probably can expect cheap gas, or at least cheap enought that the corn processors will land on their faces, and big oil will buy them out for cents on the dollar.

By my calculations, British Petroleum (BP)(ist 1/2 '08) had net earnings of 9% of sales. Also checked the Kellogg Company 2nd quarter results-also 9%. Waiting for Congress to do something about the high cost of cereal.

I have a choice whether I want to buy cereal or not, haven't bought but maybe two boxes all year. All ready bought about $2000-3000 gas.
I have a problem how much corporations and people make, like the public utility Enron, with all their people taking home millions a year. Maybe their customers should have been getting a reasonable priced electricity from a solvent company.

"You're right. We should limit and cap executive's compensation, better yet just nationalize all corporations, Communism has worked so well in other places"

This is about all I read of yours. You're probably the same one who says Communist this and Communist that. Fuels have to do with everything in our whole economy, so I thing it and other public utilities should be regulated, not communism, if that's mirroring communism, so be it. Why were the people of Enron getting bonuses, not regular pay, bonuses of 300 million a year for executives, not CEOs. You don't think there would be a line around the block for hirees at a million or two a year. If somebody invents something or starts a company, good for them, make as much as you can, Yea Bill Gates, but not somebody working a public utility.

Our oil on the world market isn't do us any good, if they open ANWR or the coasts it'll just be bought up over seas, what good does that do us if somebody buys our oil into the future? I thought all our fuel expense prices were lack of refineries, why is it suddenly lack of oil?

Well,I see what you are saying. You are still wrong.Green peace and Sierra Club dont vote for anything.Congress is doing what its best at,nothing.I dont hardly ever agree with you so to me,that would be the right thing to do,not pleasing you.The big, huge part you left out is what is causing the problem?

I have put this stuff on here plenty of times. Its not even the oil companies fault as much this time, unless they are speculators too.Speculating on oil prices while the value of the dollar drops is dumb too.So if you make a dollar that was worth a dollar by speculating, and the dollar is now worth 50 cents?Duh,really going somewhere arent we?

You dont turn the country into communism. You fix whats wrong. The people running the country now are corrupt. It hardly makes a difference what they call themselves, they are bought out.All I can say is that if you actually really think you are doing whats right,at least you are kind of honest.

The trouble is you are doing what the Big Oil,Big everything wants you to do,be complacent while they steal your money. If a cashier cheats you out of 30 cents you will jump on her I bet, make a scene, but you have crooks robbing you blind and think its fine.

Here is what I think,Saudi Arabia is buddies with high ranking government officials.Saudi Arabia doesnt have the oil it once did.Since Saudi Arabia has big buddies in our government, they just jacked the price up on the oil in the whole world to raise the profits for Saudi Arabian people,so they will have lots of money when they run out of oil.

Just because you think you are right about something does not make it so,and you should not try and convince other people to follow some objective thats wrong.

My explanation might or might not be any better than yours, its another explanation. However, there is lots of evidence that its speculation of oil and other key commodities, that is what is causing the price to be so high.

The smart thing would be to invest in alternative energy.Thats the future. All alternative energy, and anything we can do to keep from buying foreign oil, including make corn ethanol,is better than being dependent on foreign oil.Thats just facts.

You dont ever let the stupidity of bought off politicians get to the level it has.You all that think the same, that these crooks are doing good things, are really misled. You needed to live when this was a better country than now.I have to say its right about the Communism, you are wrong about where it came from.

All politicians create a problem by talking about them, even if its a problem that doesnt exist, and then offer a solution. For the last 40 years about the solution has been Communist. If you agree with it,you are helping it along.

What you should do is disagree with almost every solution except the one thats best for everybody. The ones you propose, for the in the know, informed, misled type, only drag us deeper into trouble. You have to first be smarter than the enemy to defeat it.Going along with political solutions is most always wrong.

So if you think about it,you lost your business for a big lie, spread by propaganda, and you propose you can fix it,by doing the same thing the crooks did to begin with.

The crooks dont play fair. They stack the deck.Thats why the stock market falls from time to time.It makes the rich richer, and the poor poorer.

If you work for a living, and invest, you will do a good bit better than saving money. You can get rich, but not likely. You will get maybe 8 - 10%,and have a hard time hanging on to that because of inflation and higher costs, you might even loose money. You would have to invest wisely and work at it to get rich,or even a lot better than what I said. However, how fast can you loose it?Stocks are falling, going up,falling.Soon they will drop, like a rock, and lots of people will loose money.

Do you think thats fair for your government to sell out to people that do this to poor people?Do you want all utilitys run by Enron type stuff? Are you going to say thats capitalism when they steal your life savings?

I dont think you will,so its time you woke up.You are being robbed daily,by the very people you support, and that give you nothing in return but misery, and less all the time of what you need government for.

If you play the stocks, and get rich, fine. The problem is,for poor people to get rich, lots of times they have to take it away from rich people to get there, then fight hard to hang onto it.A person with a million dollars is not really rich nowdays, especially when the dollar is only worth 50 cents.

Theres a big difference when you work for a living, than if you are rich.It doesnt seem to bother rich people to steal everything they can from poor people. Then think they are doing the right thing.Hows that Christian Conservative way of looking at it going now?

Gas station at the corner by our place of work selling gas for $2.50 gal today from 7:00AM to 9:00 AM. Promotion by Michigan International Speedway. Hundreds of cars lined up 4 abreast going around the block. I counted 6 police cars with flashers going trying to keep order and keeping people circling the block who were trying to get into line. People were in line at 3:00 AM.

Let's see, average car holds about 18 gals. Assume you've got a gallon or 2 in the tank. Saving about $1.25/gal x 16 = $20 savings.
???!!!! So they sat in line for 4-5 hours to save $20 max???!! This is across the street from a Starbucks where many of them went to get a $4.50 cup of coffeee. ????!!! Plus the cost to the city for the cops and people stuck in the traffic jam trying to get to work.???
People are nuts and it's a sad commentary on life in America.

Gas has dropped 40 cents here in the last week.

The oil companies operate on a profit margin of about 8 percent. So if gas was four bucks a gallon and they decided to sell it at a loss the price would be about $3.70 per gallon.

How do you guys figure gas should be 2 bucks a gallon when worldwide demand has increased dramatically in the last five Years?

Do you have any clue what supply and demand does to the price of a commodity?

Supply and demand has nothing to do with the price of commodities. Energy and food should not even be allowed on the commodities market.

The price of energy and the price of what we eat should NOT be controlled by anything other than supply and demand.

Poor oil companies. Maybe we can all take up a collection for them.
Oil shouldn't be a commodity.
Retirements and other investments shouldn't be in it jacking up the price. I think your 8 percent is only part of their profit margin, I think they own fuel products from the grave yard to the exhaust pipe.

Kind of sickening listening to the news last ight, all the exitement that we are getting SO much releif now that gas is $3.65/ gallon, are they nutts? Knock that price down about another $2.00 and I"ll get exited. Like someone said, before, sell our export our corn for $15, beef for $4, pork for $3, and all the other food products for about triple what they are here. I remember about a year ago, that " mad money" guy was on just about every am news show, telling people to invest in petrolium, energy, technology. Well, how many millions of people made the move to oil based just on his "recommendation", sure can make a lot of demand for something just by every goob like us following his advice. I hope he comes on and says to start buying chicken@!

Exactly, $1.50 per gallon is high enough, and the oil companies can still make billions in profits.

Stupid people that were saying it's great for our 401s, well you were losing on the stock side plus all the high prices.

Very respectfully, you're wrong, and you're mad at the wrong people. Read what I wrote above.

If you learned more about economics and free markets you would be better able to understand why things are the way they are. No offense meant in that, really. Take the time, go to the library and read a basic economics book. Or don't and just be mad and ignorant.
