I don't think I understood all I thought I knew on manuals!

I thought a "repair manual" outlined service procedures, but in looking through some old Minneapolis Moline manuals I got, it actually is just the parts diagrams.

I've seen modern JD "service manuals" which tell how to work on the equipment - were there any corresponding service manuals for the older tractors??

Seems like the old Case L manual I saw was a cross between a service and operators manual... Did it just vary from brand to brand for if they did or didn't?

Thanks for any info,
Howard

There is an old story about an older couple tha gave up farming and moved to the city where "Pa" got a job in a factory. After he had been there a year he mentioned to a co-worker that they were repairin to go down home on vacation. "preparing", the co-worker corrected, "repairing means to fix". "Well", says Pa, "Thats what I said, we is fixin to go on vacation"!

Labeling

Yeah MM parts books read "Repair Catalog"
IH say "Parts Catalog"
Allis called them "Dealer Parts Catalog" Others used "Parts Book" and "Parts List"
In some areas people talk different. Around here we say were are going in town for "repairs" When were are going after parts. In other countrys these same parts are called "spares"

Were there "service manuals" too, available for the older tractors?

Or are those just a new thing??

Actually saying the phrase, "Going to town after parts" makes my mouth hurt.

"Going after repairs" just easily rolls off the tongue.

Perhaps this is why people say that my face is disfigured? Musta broke it somewhere along the line by talking funny. :>)
