|  09:05 12/04/16 Truck rear axle acts as PTOA while ago, I think I asked the group for their opinion about creating a PTO from a Ford Ranger rear axle, to be towed with a big Ferris zero turn. In the absence of my bigger tractors, I would be able to drag a Millcreek manure spreader around eleven acres of paddocks and fields. I have to say, I received very little support for, and a lot of negative comment against.
I used a scrap Ford Ranger, 4:10 gear ratio, rear axle that happened to have five bolt wheel pattern. I had an extra set of low profile, five bolt wheels and tires from my 33.5 HP Ferris, that fit the Ranger rear. I had to leave the brake drums off Ranger rear to fit the wheels. I used a splined coupler from Agri Supply for material to make the 1 3/8 X 6 spline shaft for standard PTO couplings. Using an old trailer tongue and coupling, the pile went together pretty well, especially after tilting the Ranger pinion shaft up a little to point towards the Millcreek PTO shaft's U-joint. As the Ranger rear is now upside down and backwards, I had to seal up the pressure oil bleeder hole to keep the lube oil from draining. I didn't have my Ferris running, so I hooked the rig to my backup zero turn, which is a a 25 HP 61" Scaggs. It all works wonderfully well. On the occasion of driving into a box and getting stuck, we just pull the hitch pins and hand spin the rig to drive back out. My Millcreek is sized for 3 - 5 horses, so I imagine I am pulling a lot less weight than you guys with the big herds. | | | Comments | willysz
