I found the torque converter. A mechanic told me to drain the oil. I drained the transmission and the rear end. That came to about 12 gallons of really thick and nasty oil. Bought the tractor hydrolic fluid and followed directions to pour 2 1/2 gal.into the transmission and start the engine, let it run a couple minutes, wait a minute, then check the dip stick and it should be low due to the pump pumping it back to the rear end. It wasn't. I'm not sure the pump is working. The transmission is working fine (both fw and backward) but still no brakes. What do I need to do at this point?

I had not read this post when I replied to your other, determine what machine you have because one has mechanical brakes and the other hydraulic, but the no brakes sounds like the mechanical, they are adjustable with a deep 3/4 socket, look at the linkage underneath and you should see the adjuster bolt in between the linkage where it is connected to the brake housing, wheels off the ground, tighten the nut till the wheel is just stopped, back off two full turns.
Good luck
AJ
