A good reminder. As a former volunteer, I can attest to the fact carelessness is the biggest cause of fire calls. Sadness hit the Wisc. State 4-H program as a leaders some died in a house fire last Sunday a.m. Some smoke detectors had been removed and others had no batteries - a needless loss of life. Know your fire number, call 911 BEFORE any attempts to extinguish a fire yourself, seconds count and it is minutes and miles volunteers and then equipment must travel to arrive at the scene. A smoke detector in every sleeping area; another within six feet of the exterior surface of said door; at the top of every stairway - Wisc. fire code, sadly so often ignored. Detectors are cheap and could make a great present, if not sooner, than under the tree at the latest. One Christmas Eve 3:30 a.m. morning in the mid 80's had me discharging a fire extinguisher onto a dead 13 year old girls body. Take care this time of year and always.
