70 Cub - Shift lever popped out Help

Hi, I have a 70 Cub, yesterday when I was doing some grading, the shift lever popped out of the top trans cover. I can stick it back in, and still shift the gears. In the neutral position the shifter will pull right out of the trans. How serious of a problem is this, and will it damage anything if I still use the tractor until I can fix it. TIA Gary
