M brakes

Ok, thinking about fixing those brakes (Been putting it off too long now) The left side (flywheel?) is very rough, put new liners on before wheat planting, but it's worn out already. (Too many years pulling a one-way) The flywheel will have to be replaced or turned. If turned, how do you take up the slack that will occur on the brake band? Any other tips or gremlins to watch for? This is a working tractor, I've used it to plow with for the past 8 years. She's never let me down. (Knock, knock). I don't use road gear, front end's too loose. I just need to turn left under load.
