JDM - Here's another thought: The IHC O- and W- series tractors could be ordered with an over-center (hand) clutch. Clutch was operated by a hand lever to the driver's right - same as 2 on cyl Deere tractors. The O-6 and W-6 use the same engine and clutch housing as the Farmall M - I would think an over-center clutch from an O-6, OS-6 or W-6 (also from a T-6 crawler, and possibly a U-6 power unit...) could be retrofitted to your friend's M.

Suspect this would probably be a pretty much a "bolt up" conversion to the M. It would retain exising independent wheel brakes pedals on the right foot making it easier/safer for others besides your amputee friend operate.

Just an idea...
