Tom, Here Goes...........Start with a regular run of the mill Farmall M ......add the larger engine , and disc brakes = SM-Stage I, then add Live Hydrolics = SM-Stage II, Then add SC seat assembly, & TA & LPTO = Stage III--AKA-- The entire SMTA series. The SMs culminate in the StageIV or AKA as the 400 The pennicle of the series , with all the refinments. Being the 400 was in the letter series it had no "stage" designation. This is a basic description of the entire SM series taken from Chapter 9, Page 103 of Guy Fays Letter series book. Hope this helps. Later, John A.
