FINALLY! All 16 headbolts were exactly at 70 foot pounds. 5 of the 8 valve stem clearances were at .20. Number 2 exhaust was at .30 (That would explain some of the slight knocking noise) one valve at .25. Number one exhaust at .08! So I have now re-adjusted them all to .18 cold. Stuck down some permatex and should be done fooling with the valves for some time now. Head and rocker arm area was very clean. I am still stumped why those valve clearances were not at .20 on all 8. Anybody else had problems after a rebuild with clearances holding? Must be a case of Reditis.
