It probably was 6 volt, positive ground when new. That tractor was built when the automotive industry was starting it's move to 12 volts and positive ground was also common. You can convert it to a 12 volt alternator without much problem. Click on the "Articles" link at the left, there are several very good descriptions of the process. I reccomend the "Step by Step" acticle by Bob M. It is very thorough and well written.
