To Rebuild or Not?

I have an SMTA that looks pretty rough, and I'd like to fix it up into nice condition. The tractor won't do much more than mow a couple of acres. The engine runs well, doesn't smoke, but no idea how long ago it was rebuilt. The tractor leaks all over, so I'll replace lots of seals before I paint it, so now the tough question. But if I'm tearing it down far enough to replace seals, etc, how much should I rebuild the engine? Every day I talk myself into everything from a complete rebuild to maybe just the rings. Any thoughts much appreciated.
