I agree with Bob M, go ahead and replace the voltage regulator and you might also want to have the generator checked again at N A P A to see if you "fried" anything. I have a '64 Ford PU that gave me fits (not charging, dead electrical system, all kinds of weirdness on and off) until someone suggested I might have a grounding problem. New battery cables and a nicely polished ground contact and it suddenly worked fine, that and all the new parts I had already installed.
