Farmallkid, I paid $4500 for mine with an aftermarket 3pth, aftermarket dual remote hydraulic system and great tires all around. The Tractor market in New England is a good example of what Duane suggests. Because of their low maufacturing numbers, (+/-26,000) live power and hydraulics, T/A, and the nitch they fill in the IH history; you can't really compare SMTA value to an M or SM. A fully restored SMD maybe, but again, they are special beast's. Even the 400 series will sell for less than an SMTA. The SMTA is a good iron investment and a hard working machine. Product Review: Lead Substitutes - by Mike Schordine. Lead was oriinally added to gasoline as an upper cylinder lubricant. It lubes the valves and seats. If you rebuild the motor, you could use hardened seats and valves, and unleaded fuel. But if your old tractor runs good, a simple lead substitute added to the gas is a perfectly reasonable solution.
