Greg - If you really have a single wire alternator Cannonball's advice is right on. (Punch below for a typical single wire alternator connection diagram). However if your alternator has R and F terminals, it is an early 3-wire unit. It requires an external regulator + wiring to the R and F terminals in order to work.
