Hello,
I would check the battery with a voltmeter and notice the polarity of the battery and meter. - on battery to com or black on voltmeter. If it is a 6 volt system it should be around 7 volts some of the other folks would know closer and 12 volt system should be 14.5 volt. Also what is the voltage with the engine off? I would think with it showing charge with engine off and lights on something is wrong.. Best of luck in the troubleshooting.
