Thanks everyone for all the great advice. I did go ahead and remove the battery and cover and exposed the shift rail linkages. It is clear that the rail for 4'th/5'th gear is not movable and sitting slightly higher then the other rails. However, now that I have it exposed how can I fix this? It still seems like a problem in the gear-case not with the rail itself.. although I suppose that's possible. I can pry it a little with a wedge but I don't want to force it and it doesn't seem to do much good. Perhaps someone who has dealt with this before can tell me the trick to get this gear free again. Thanks-
