Bob: I can tell you 656 diesel will make quite a noise with a bent valve push rod. Don't ask why but it sounds far worse when your in front of tractor. I went to field to once to give message to my operator. Standing out front as he approached I thought the tractor was going to blow up. You could only notice it as a ticking sound from side or in operators seat. I called the dealer, he said check the push rods. Sure enough that was the problem.
