Dan - If you only see 8 amps with the generator F terminal grounded and the engine at full speed, the generator has a low output problem. It normally should give 12 - 15 amps or so. A couple of possibilities: 1 - If the generator has an adjustable 3rd brush, reset the 3rd brush closer to the brush nearest to it. The closer the two brushes the higher the output. (But set no the 3rd brush no closer than 2 commutator bars from it's neighbor.) Note that later production generators have a fixed (non-adjustable) 3rd brush. 2 - Could be the generator is suffering from an open or short in a armature winding, high resistance in the field winding, etc. The generator then needs a rebuild. 3 - (Long shot...) Could be the wiring between the generator A terminal, the cutout and the ammeter is too small or has high a resistance somewhere (bad terminal, etc). If the wiring is questionable it should be replaced. Good luck!

A good friend and I were recently discussing our tractor electrical systems when he stated "I figure it all comes back to applying Ohms Law". At this point
