400 T/A questions

I got the old girl split, throw out bearing and shaft came out easy, got the bearing and drive shaft out of front of t/a. Took set screw and lock nut off of t/a clutch shaft and snap ring off. I&T says pull shaft out and remove throw out bearing. It's stuck on shaft, tapped on it with a hammer and punch but won't move. Started to swell end of bearing carrier so I quit. Is there something else to take loose that I missed? Do I dare put some heat on it to loosen it? I do it to steel all the time but not sure about doing it to cast iron. Inside where t/a clutch is is pretty rusty, but the shaft isn't too bad, took emery cloth and shined up shaft. Any help would be great!!! Thanks in advance, Chris
