Rule 1 on these (and any tractor with a fuel tank higher than the carb) is to shut off the fuel at the tank when the tractor is shut off. (even for 5 min). Gasoline will eat up the inside of the hose going to the carb from the air cleaner and cause the stuff to be blacker than pure gasoline. OOORRR the air cleaner pan could have been overfilled, or filled with a very light oil (should be 20W I think) If it is only an hour old, it needs to run in before making many decisions, with one exception it should not be run excessively rich, or the cylinders will be wetted down and the oil will be diluted. Running the engine with the aircleaner on should be OK. If blackish smoke, correct the rich mixture before continuing. JimN
