I'm retired and farm just a small hobby farm of 40 acres. I like my 806 gas, with gasoline in these parts @ $3.35 and diesel @ $4.05 it is about the same cost per acre. yes, gassers use more fuel. If I plow with my J.D 730 diesel pulling 4-14's and the 806 pulling 5-14's. In the same 20 acre field, the cost per hour is more for the 806G. but the 806 gets the chore done quicker, so the cost per acre is not that much more as it takes less time with the 806. Thus less gallons used It has been said that the John Deere 70/730 is the most fuel efficient tractor of it's time.
I use the 806 G. to plow/fit and the 730 to plant I enjoy using both. just my .02 cents worth
