I recently bought a Farmall M. It doesn"t smoke blue smoke like an oil burner, but is using oil. I"ve done a compression test and all cylinders have 100 to 110 lbs. of compression. Only 10% max. difference if I put oil in the cylinders. It starts and runs fine. Oil pressure is good but does drop a little after the engine gets really warm, especially at an idle. It sat for a while and a friend suspects I might have a stuck oil ring. I have changed the oil once and it was pretty dirty. The new oil got dark right away like the inside of the engine might be a little dirty. If I do have a stuck oil ring, what is the best way to get it unstuck? Or does anyone have any suggestions as to what to check for, other than tearing into the engine? I was getting light colored smoke from the exhaust just intermittantly and I re-torqued the head and that seemed to cure that problem. The inside of the valve cover was a little dirty, like the oil wasn"t changed often enough. I love to tinker with old tractors like this but am not a "mechanic" so forgive me if I sound dumb! (lol)
