Tim: I didn't buy my 540 new, however I did buy it from the original owner who bought it new with the loader in 1959. The loader did say Wagner, no mention of Cockshutt-Wagner. It was the exact same loader as I've seen on 330, 340, 350 and 460 IH Utilities at the IH dealer.
Two double action lift cylinders, two bucket tilt cylinders, oil reservoir in loader sub frame, Cesna front mount pump with double spool valve with bypass plus an inline filter. The Wagner loader hydraulics were completely separate from tractor hydraulics. There was another model about same size with single bucket cylinder. This was Truro NS, and you could buy parts either at IH or Cockshutt dealer, same parts book. As I recall there were variety of pump options.
There was also another monster Wagner loader installed on 570s, same basic design only larger all around. The dealer at Truro brought in several of those 570s with huge airplane front tires. Cockshutt had a way better clutch and transmission than IH for loader work. There was a Wagner backhoe as well.

Free settlers started to arrive, they followed the explorers across the mountains and where land was suitable set up farms. T
