Chances are that if you have a ridge at the bottom of the liner the engine was pretty badly worn and you're not going to gain a whole lot with new rings. If you're determined to go ahead then you should take the ridge out for the same reason you removed the one at the top. While you're at it I would measure the skirt clearance on the piston and the ring end gap as well as cylinder out of round if possible. It's a lot easier to do the job right the first time that to tear it down again because it still smokes. Sam
