Those blocks would crack if it froze up from cold. Many have been fixed with several types of stuff and can last forever. My self i have had great luck with rubber cement that holds your windshield in. Depends on how bad the crack is if the block is cracked between the cycls its junk. But if this one has been running i sure wouldnt worry ablut the patch as the rest of the block must be ok.
