That is WAY too much. I have never had one cost more than $100 if I took it to a rebuild shop. I suggest Superior in Beloit, WI or Maxim Rebuilders in Burlington, WI. Maxim will be higher than Superior, but no where close to that kind of money.
I sent my 3 bolt SMTA starter in to Superior and than was $100. I JUST did my MD starter and that was $90. Both of those are larger than average M starters. Not sure how much bigger than an M a WD-9 starter is, but that's nuts. Even my 3 bolt conversion starter for my 7.3l PSD was cheaper than that!
