The points and condenser are connected to the stud (pass through) on the side of the distributor. This connection is often incorrectly reassembled causing a short to ground that would also make the coil warm up due to being on all the time. The order of stuff from outside to inside is: nut, lock washer, flat washer, connector from coil loop, lock washer, nut, flat washer, plastic/fiber insulator (with small end in the hole), then on the inside, a flat fiber washer (insulator on the inside over the small end from outside), flat washer, nut, spring and copper (on some), condenser connector, lock washer, nut. This makes it conduct directly to the points movable contact. Jim
