d Beatty what you state matches up exactly with what i posted. There are no absolutes in what the IHC plants did years ago. Plants went with what they had. Dealers went with what they had. The only thing you can do is base your decisions for what is "correct" on IHC Corp memos, and plant notes. Is an F-12 with a field upgrade to F-14 standards incorrect? Hardly. Take pride in your work, and hopefully (if all goes well) your end result.
Don't loose too much sleep on getting the decals or guages down to the very date. I don't even sweat it too much to get the month right. Only time that really counts is the NOV 1936 paint color changeover. Even then, the dealers would paint the gray ones red, so, is that incorrect? Hardly.
So, to the original poster, don't get discouraged. This type of banter is healthy, and you learn alot from it. Not much different that sitting around a table and chewin' the fat.
