Thats simple, like you mentioned, buying by proxy. Friends and relatives that live nearby is the easiest. Be warned though, if Marty ever connects you to whoevers account you are using could ban and shut down that account for ANY use of Ebay. Ebay takes that type of fraud pretty seriously too.
How hard is it to set up a LLC for a business in your state? Here in WI its stupid simple and if you do it right, totally anonymous. Its super cheap too so just one or two transactions after setting up an account would save you as much as shipping a heavy part twice.
