Had a similar issue with my H last year. It ran just fine when parked, but next day it turned all of 1/4 turn and locked up solid, (hand crank only at the time). I could stick a pry bar into the starter hole and turn it back about that same 1/4 turn, then same thing again, stuck. Stumped, too. Then, I decided to pull all items off engine that could come off easy enough, till I either had a bare block sitting in the frame or had found my issue. When I pulled the governor off, surprise! It then turned over easy as pie! Opening up the gov showed the problem, one of the pins that hold the fly weights in had finally broken on one end and slid out just enough that it and the weight both hit the bottom of the housing and locked the engine tighter then a drum, especially since I was just hand cranking it. If it would have been electric start, it may have just broken off who knows what inside the gov, then started anyway, but I think I would have detected something was amiss when a rod came through the side of the block at about 5000 RPM! Just goes to show you, on these machines, no matter the color, they are all O-L-D and anything is subject to breaking, so rule out nothing until it has been checked.
